Brothers and sisters of UPAGE, friends, and fellow colleagues

1. I would like to take this opportunity to thank UPAGE leaders and members for your dedication and support, in working through various issues alongside with Temasek as Singapore restructured its electricity industry.
2. The journey has been a long one. The patience and clarity of UPAGE leaders and members were key for helping to ensure a sustainable future for the electricity industry. In turn, this restructuring enabled Singapore to improve its competitive position as an economic hub, and secure the best long term outcome for our workers and our people.
3. It has not always been an easy journey. But the government agencies, the boards and managements of the companies involved, and above all, UPAGE leaders and members, had a shared purpose to do what is right and make the future better for our people. This candid and frank tripartism where we can share our views and experiences with trust and understanding, where we search ceaselessly for a just and balanced solution, is what makes the difference for Singapore. This has given confidence to the new owners of our gencos to invest long term in Singapore as well.
4. I treasure the wisdom and friendship of the UPAGE leaders and members. I saw for myself what selfless leadership means. I watched UPAGE friends come together for Nithi, and Nithi in turn pushing with wit and tenacity for his UPAGE members even as he had to fight his own last battle with courage and grace. I also saw UPAGE going through a leadership transition, as the older leaders nurtured and supported younger leaders to take over. I saw you genuinely caring for each other and for Singapore.
5. It is a privilege to know you, and to hold your trust in friendship.
