Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited’s Chief Representative in Vietnam, Mr. Derek Lau, spoke today before the participants and guests during Temasek’s LEADERS! Programme networking dinner, which is part of Temasek’s five-day leadership development programme held for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Lau said, “At Temasek, people are our most valued assets. We believe people are the building blocks of the society, with the ability to also determine the success or failure of an organisation. This is why we started The LEADERS! Programme, which is currently in its fourth year.”

First launched in 2004, LEADERS! Programme brings together prominent industry leaders in Vietnam to share their experiences with high potential young leaders from both Temasek and its portfolio companies. The programme is designed to develop the leadership capabilities of high potential young leaders in today's changing global business environment. It focuses on building the four leadership competencies of “Strategic Perspective”, “People Orientation”, “Result Focus” and “Change Leadership”. Participants are given the opportunity to gain insights on the challenges and issues facing international businesses through self-assessment, mutual learning, industry case studies, and field trips.

After three years in Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City was selected as the location for this year’s programme. Mr. Lau commented, “After considering various options, Vietnam was selected as the ideal venue for this year’s programme. This location presents the participants an opportunity to observe a transforming economy for themselves; and network and learn from a new generation of local business leaders and talents.”

“Vietnam remains an attractive investment destination, given its rich resources, young population and growing class of top business leaders and entrepreneurs, many of whom are here with us tonight,” Mr. Lau added.

Temasek formalised its commitment to Vietnam by setting up its first Vietnam representative office in Ho Chi Minh City in 2005. Temasek will further enhance its presence and build its network with the opening of a second representative office in Hanoi later this year.
