Emails purporting to be from Temasek
Temasek has been made aware that some individuals have been contacted via email by people purporting to be senior officeholders of Temasek. These impersonators doctor their email so that they appear to be sent from a Temasek email address, while their own email address is embedded in a separate “Reply-To” field so that all replies are directed to the impersonator.
These are phishing scams and are being investigated.
Recipients of email from Temasek staff should check that both the sender and recipient email addresses are correct, even if they seem to correspond with the email addresses of those Temasek people they contact regularly. Temasek email addresses end in “@temasek.com.sg” and not “@smtp1234.com”, or indeed, any other domain. Temasek staff do not conduct business using alternative email platforms, including Gmail, Yahoo! Mail or the like.
Cyber criminals are sophisticated and can make emails look very real, so please take care to verify that emails containing sensitive content are properly encrypted and that you check the address from which the email was sent, and to which you are sending.
If you receive an email from someone purporting to represent Temasek that is unusual in its nature, or asks for sensitive information, please verify its authenticity with your Temasek contact, or with Temasek directly. As a precaution, please do not respond to the email and do not click on any links or open any attachments in the email as it may contain malware. If you receive such an email or have replied to the email, please report the matter to your IT department immediately (if relevant).
